Lufthansa Technik Malta has unveiled a significant €22 million investment aimed at establishing a new hangar dedicated to the maintenance of wide-body aircraft, which is expected to generate 70 high-skilled job opportunities.

This investment will enhance the company’s ability to provide maintenance services for some of the largest aircraft in the Airbus and Boeing fleets, specifically the A380 and 787 Dreamliner models.Supported by local initiatives such as Malta Enterprise and INDIS, this project will bolster Lufthansa Technik Malta’s operational capabilities.

Notably, the facility will enable the servicing of the 787 Dreamliner as part of the company’s new designation as a Boeing-licensed Service Centre for cabin modifications. Additionally, the project will include the construction of a parking facility designed to accommodate three aircraft simultaneously.

During a recent press event at the company’s location within Malta International Airport, the significance of this development was highlighted. The CEO of Lufthansa Technik Malta described this as a pivotal moment for the operations in Malta, reinforcing the company’s stature as well as Malta’s role as a key aviation hub.The aviation sector is a crucial contributor to the Maltese economy, generating approximately €600 million and providing thousands of jobs. Furthermore, there is a strong emphasis on preparing local students for careers in aviation through initiatives like the Choose Aviation campaign, which is supported by Malta Enterprise and MCAST.

The focus remains on prioritizing quality in job creation rather than simply increasing numbers, underscoring the importance of partnerships with international firms.Furthermore, this investment is seen as a landmark achievement for Malta’s aviation industry, solidifying its reputation as a center of excellence for aircraft repair and maintenance in Europe.
